What Pressure Do These Need?

FloraFlex micro drippers are pressure compensating. They start regulating at 15 PSI and run best between 25 and 35. Below 15 the diaphragm stops regulating altogether and the pots nearest the pump take the water first, which is the uneven watering people usually blame on a blockage.

Small tent, up to 1.5m x 1.5m, with the reservoir alongside. The Aquaking Q4003 will run it, at around 11 PSI. That is under spec and watering will be less even than it should be, but plenty of growers run exactly this and are happy with it. Two things have to be right. Use the whip kit without the DNL, because a DNL needs 0.8 bar to open and this pump makes 0.78, so with one fitted no water reaches your ring at all. And fit the Manual Flush Kit on the far tee rather than the automatic flush valve, which needs 8 PSI and 454 litres an hour before its diaphragm will move.

Anything bigger, or the reservoir further away. The Aquaking Q800103 at 3 bar, plus the Rain Bird pressure regulator to hold the line at 25 to 35 PSI. The pump pushes about 43 and the emitters should not sit above 40.

Whatever pump you run, use a filter. Clogged emitters are the most common cause of uneven watering, and a 130 micron mesh filter on the feed prevents most of it. Both whip kits have one built in.

The full working, including which pumps clear the DNL and why an 8m head pump can leave you with no water at all rather than just less of it, is in what pump for FloraFlex drippers.
