Tall Grow Tents

Tall grow tents are 220cm high and up, against the 200cm that counts as standard. That extra 20 to 40cm sounds trivial until you do the arithmetic on what actually sits between the floor and the roof of a tent.

Where the height goes

In a 200cm tent that can leave under a metre of usable canopy height. Going to 220cm or 240cm adds that back where it matters.

When you actually need a tall tent

• You are running HPS. A 600W needs far more hanging distance than an LED to avoid burning the tops. This is the most common reason growers run out of height.
• You veg for more than a few weeks. Longer veg means bigger plants, and the stretch after flip can double their height.
• You use large pots or a gravity-fed system. A 30L pot on a tray starts you 40cm off the floor before anything grows. See gravity-fed systems.
• You trellis or scrog. Net layers need clearance above the canopy to be worth doing.

When 200cm is fine

Short veg, LED rather than HPS, fabric pots straight on the floor, and plants you keep trained low. Most first grows fit comfortably in a standard tent - height only becomes the limiting factor once you are pushing the other variables.

Two routes to extra height. Several Bud Box tents are sold as Standard & XL Height, where the XL variant is 2.2m - same footprint, more headroom, small price difference.
