Organic plant nutrients feed the soil rather than the plant. Instead of delivering ready-made mineral salts, they supply material that soil microbes break down into something roots can absorb – which is slower, more forgiving, and produces a noticeably different result.
Organic vs mineral: the honest comparison
Organic
Mineral
Speed
Slow release, buffered
Immediate uptake
Margin for error
Very forgiving – hard to burn
Unforgiving – EC matters
Control
Limited – the soil decides

Best medium
Soil and living soil
Coco, hydro, run-to-waste
Flavour and aroma

Depends entirely on the flush
If you are new, organic in soil is the easier first grow. You can overfeed a mineral system in an afternoon; an organic soil will absorb a mistake.
What organic growing needs
A living medium. Organics do nothing in inert media. Start with organic soils rather than coco or rockwool.
Patience. Corrections take days, not hours. Feed on a schedule rather than reacting.
Less pH chasing. A healthy organic soil buffers itself. Constant pH adjustment usually does more harm than good.
What we stock
Organic lines from Biobizz, Plant Magic, Ecothrive, BioTabs, Green Planet, Atami and Biogreen – bottled feeds, dry amendments, worm castings and compost teas. For a fully mineral programme instead see base nutrients, or nutrient starter kits if you want a matched set.
Organic nutrient FAQs
Can I use organic nutrients in coco? Some, but it is not what they are for. Coco is inert and drains fast, so there is little biology to do the conversion. Coco-specific mineral feeds work better.
Do I still need to pH my water? Much less. A living soil buffers itself. Tap water in most of the UK is fine as-is for organic soil growing.
Is organic lower yielding? Usually slightly, yes – and usually better on aroma and flavour. Which matters more is your call.
