What UVB is for
UVB is added in the last weeks of flower, not through the whole cycle. The plant responds to it by producing protective compounds, which is where the interest in resin and aroma comes from. It is a finishing tool, not a primary light – you run it alongside your main fixture, not instead of it. See LED grow lights and grow room lights for the main light.
Running it safely
UVB damages eyes and skin, and the damage is cumulative and painless at the time. Two rules:
- Wear proper UV-rated glasses whenever the tubes are on – ordinary grow room glasses are not enough. See Method Seven glasses.
- Start short. Build exposure up over days rather than running full duration from day one. Too much UVB bleaches and stresses rather than improving anything.
