Frequently Asked Questions
What is Moonshine Nutrient Enhancer?
Moonshine Nutrient Enhancer is a plant bio-stimulant from Moonshine Global, made in the UK. The label lists molasses 8%, kelp 8% and oil seeds extract mixture 4% in demineralised water. You add it to your nutrient solution alongside your usual base feed.
How much Moonshine Nutrient Enhancer do I use?
Use 1ml per litre of nutrient solution, from seed to harvest. That is Moonshine Global's dose.
Do I need to reduce my base nutrients when I use Moonshine?
If you feed with mineral nutrients, Moonshine Global says to reduce the feed rate by one third when you add Moonshine. Organic feeds need no reduction.
Does Moonshine Nutrient Enhancer change EC or pH?
Moonshine Global says it does not alter EC and is pH stable. Measure your solution as you normally would, because your own meter is the final word on your own water.
Can I use Moonshine Nutrient Enhancer in coco, soil and hydro?
Yes. Moonshine Global says it can be used with any growing medium or grow system, including hydroponics, coco and soil.
Does Moonshine Nutrient Enhancer contain hormones or PGRs?
Moonshine Global says the growth stimulators in it are naturally occurring levels of auxin, gibberellin and cytokinin from its plant extracts, and lists it as a plant growth stimulator, not a PGR product. It does not publish the actual hormone levels.
How far does a bottle of Moonshine Nutrient Enhancer go?
At 1ml per litre, a 500ml bottle treats 500L of nutrient solution, 1L treats 1,000L, 5L treats 5,000L, 10L treats 10,000L and 20L treats 20,000L.
Can I use Moonshine Nutrient Enhancer as a foliar spray?
The directions are for adding it to the nutrient solution. Moonshine Global makes two separate foliar sprays, Sunshine and Bio, each with its own dilution directions, and those are the products to use on the leaves.
Is there independent research on Moonshine Nutrient Enhancer?
We have not found published trials on Moonshine Nutrient Enhancer itself, so the growth claims on the label are the manufacturer's. There is a research record on kelp extracts as a group. Reviews such as Khan et al. (2009) in the Journal of Plant Growth Regulation describe growth-promoting substances in seaweed extracts, and other reviews note that hormone content varies widely between extracts. The RHS adds that seaweed products are not true fertilisers, because their nutrient content is not guaranteed or standardised.
