Description
The Essentials EC Meter gives direct, accurate readings of your nutrient solution and takes the guesswork out of mixing concentrate with water. This is a Swiss-made unit, rebuilt for this relaunch with tighter build quality and more consistent readings — same simple dip-and-read operation growers already trust.
All readings are automatically temperature compensated. Just dip the sensor into your solution, stir, and wait — you'll have a stable reading in around 20 seconds.
Why Choose the Essentials EC Meter?
| Feature | What It Means For You |
|---|---|
| Swiss-Made Build | Precision engineering behind the sensor and electronics, redesigned for this relaunch |
| Fast 20-Second Readings | Dip, stir and read — no long wait for a stable result |
| Automatic Temperature Compensation | Readings stay accurate regardless of solution temperature |
| Protective Shroud | Slotted plastic shroud shields the electrodes and temperature sensor from knocks |
| Batteries Included | Ready to calibrate and use straight out of the box |
How It Works
The electrodes on the bottom of the device measure the electrical conductivity of your nutrient solution, displayed clearly on the LCD screen — so you can dial in the exact strength of your feed for optimised plant growth. We recommend calibrating before use, and recalibrating every 10 measurements to keep readings accurate.
This device is splashproof but not fully waterproof, so always avoid submersion of the body. To save battery, it will automatically turn off after a few minutes of inactivity.
How to Use the EC Meter
Make up your normal nutrient solution and stir thoroughly. Press the On/Off button, dip the end of the device into the solution and submerge the shroud — a light tap will clear any air bubbles. Hold the probe still for a few seconds while it equalises to the solution temperature, then read the EC directly off the screen.
Pair It With the Essentials pH Meter
EC tells you how strong your feed is — pH tells you whether the plant can actually access it. Run them side by side with the Essentials pH Meter for a complete, budget-friendly measurement setup.
Looking After Your EC Pen
An EC probe's electrodes pick up salt and mineral buildup fast — a bit of regular care keeps your readings trustworthy for years, not months.
- Rinse after every use — clean the shroud and electrodes with fresh water to stop nutrient residue drying onto the contacts
- Recalibrate every 10 measurements — EC electrodes drift with use, so frequent recalibration keeps you accurate
- Deep clean monthly — use a dedicated conductivity probe cleaning solution to strip mineral scale that water alone won't remove
- Never submerge the body — this unit is splashproof, not waterproof; only the shroud and electrodes should go in solution
- Store it dry and capped — unlike a pH probe, an EC electrode should be kept clean and dry between uses, not left in solution
