What is Moonshine Sunshine foliar spray?
Moonshine Sunshine is a foliar spray from Moonshine Global, made in the UK from molasses 4%, kelp 4% and oil seeds extract mixture 4% in demineralised water. You spray it onto the leaves and stems. It comes as a ready to use 1L spray or as concentrate in 500ml, 1L and 5L bottles.
How do I mix Moonshine Sunshine concentrate?
Add 50ml of Moonshine Sunshine concentrate to 950ml of tepid or deionised water, which is 1 part concentrate to 19 parts water. A 500ml bottle mixes with 9.5L of water, a 1L bottle with 19L and a 5L bottle with 95L.
When is the best time to spray Moonshine Sunshine?
Moonshine Global says to spray a light mist in low light to avoid burning. Indoors that usually means the start or end of the light period, or with the lights off. Outdoors, early morning or evening works. CANNA's foliar spray guidance suggests temperatures below about 27C (80F).
How often can I use Moonshine Sunshine?
The directions say to repeat as often as required. Moonshine Sunshine sits alongside your normal feeding and does not replace it, so start with one spray, watch how the leaves respond, and go from there.
Can I spray Moonshine Sunshine on open flowers?
No. Moonshine Global's directions say not to spray open flowers.
Do I need deionised water for Moonshine Sunshine?
The directions call for tepid or deionised water. Deionised or reverse osmosis water is the easy way to get that if your tap water is hard.
Is Moonshine Sunshine safe?
Moonshine Global describes Sunshine as a natural blend of plant extracts that is biodegradable and not hazardous to human health or the environment. The label also says it is not for human consumption, so store it in a cool, dark place and keep it out of reach of children.
What is the difference between Moonshine Sunshine, Bio and Nutrient Enhancer?
Sunshine and Bio are both foliar sprays. Sunshine carries 4% each of molasses, kelp and seed extract and is applied as a light mist in low light. Bio carries 5% of each and is sprayed to runoff every 3 days. Nutrient Enhancer is a stronger blend (molasses 8%, kelp 8%, seed extract 4%) that goes into the nutrient solution at 1ml per litre instead of onto the leaves.
Is there independent research on Moonshine Sunshine?
We have not found published trials on Moonshine Sunshine itself. There is a research record on kelp extracts as a group. Reviews such as Khan et al. (2009) in the Journal of Plant Growth Regulation describe growth-promoting substances in seaweed extracts, and other reviews note that hormone content varies widely between extracts. The RHS adds that seaweed products are not true fertilisers, because their nutrient content is not guaranteed or standardised.

How to use Moonshine Sunshine foliar spray
- Ready to use spray: go straight to step 2. Concentrate: add 50ml to 950ml of tepid or deionised water.
- Spray a light mist over the plant, in low light, to avoid burning.
- Repeat as often as required.
- Do not spray open flowers.
Those steps are Moonshine Global's directions. "Low light" needs a bit of translation. Indoors it usually means around the start or end of the light period, or with the lights off, which is what Hygrozyme recommends. Outdoors, go early morning or evening. CANNA suggests spraying when temperatures are below about 27C (80F), because stomata close in high heat.

Manufacturer figures, at 1 part concentrate to 19 parts water. The directions call for tepid or deionised water. If your tap water is hard, a reverse osmosis unit gives you clean water to mix with.
What is in Moonshine Sunshine?

Kelp is a brown seaweed, and it is the ingredient with the most published research behind it. Reviews of seaweed extract biostimulants (for example Khan et al., 2009) describe growth-promoting substances in these extracts, including cytokinins, auxins and betaines, and later reviews note that hormone content varies widely between extracts. The RHS takes a careful line: seaweed products are not true fertilisers because their nutrient content is not guaranteed or standardised, and some are sold on the strength of natural growth regulators such as cytokinins. We have not found published hormone levels for Sunshine itself.
