Description
Cultiwool Loose Rockwool Grow Cubes are 10 x 10 x 10mm rockwool cubes, sold loose by the bag or the box. Clean, light and very well aerated, with each cube holding its shape through handling and irrigation rather than breaking down into mush.
Sold elsewhere as Cellmax cubes, mini grow cubes or growcubes. Cultiwool make theirs from basalt rock rather than slag wool, which is what keeps them consistent bag to bag.
Loose Cubes or Mapito? Not the same job.
These cubes are built for propagation and early establishment, and they keep their shape. Cultiwool Mapito is granulated loose rockwool for growing the crop out in pots and troughs. Full comparison below.

Frequently asked questions
Which size should I buy?
The 90 litre bag covers most tent and small room setups. The 200 litre box is there for anyone filling a bench of pots in one go and not wanting to open five bags.
Are these the same as Cellmax cubes?
Same format, and the names get used interchangeably in the trade along with mini grow cubes and growcubes. These are Cultiwool's, made from basalt rock rather than slag wool. See the rest of the range in Rockwool.
Do they need soaking first?
Wet them through with pH-adjusted water before planting. Rockwool is inert and these are buffered, so there is no long conditioning, but dry cubes wet unevenly and you will chase that for the first few feeds. Meters and solutions are in pH & EC Management.
Can I mix them with clay pebbles?
Yes, and plenty do. Pebbles in the bottom third for drainage with cubes above is a common pot build. It buys you air without giving up the water holding. See Clay Pebbles.
Should I grow the whole crop in these?
You can, and people do. But if the pot is the plant's home for the whole run, Mapito is the medium Cultiwool build for that. More air, faster drainage, and it will not settle on you late in flower.
