Description

CAN Inline Carbon Filters are made from Can-Filters' lightweight, high grade activated carbon and built to fit directly inline into a run of ducting, rather than hanging at the point of extraction like a standard can-style filter. That difference matters more than it sounds. Mount it flat against a ceiling or tucked along a duct run and you get back the vertical headroom a bulkier filter would eat up.

Can-Filters has been making carbon filtration since 1987 and was acquired by Hawthorne Gardening Company in 2017. They're not a white-label operation rebadging someone else's carbon, they've been doing this specific job for decades.

Why Choose An Inline Filter Over A Can-Style Filter?

Standard can-style filters hang at the extraction point with a deep carbon bed built around volume and lifespan, they're the workhorse of most tent setups. Inline filters trade some of that bulk for a slimmer profile that sits directly in the ducting itself. That makes them a good fit for low-ceiling rooms, lofts, or any space where a bulky can filter simply won't tuck away neatly.

Best practice either way: position the filter on the intake side of your inline fan, so air passes through the carbon before reaching the fan. That protects the fan and keeps airflow more efficient than pulling air through the filter after the fan.

Available Sizes

Diameter Rated Airflow
5" 425m³/h or 600m³/h
6" 600m³/h
8" 1000m³/h or 1500m³/h
10" 1000m³/h, 1500m³/h or 2500m³/h
12" 2500m³/h or 3000m³/h

Match the diameter to your ducting and the airflow rating to your fan's output, running a filter rated well below your fan's CFM restricts airflow and shortens both the filter's and fan's working life.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between an inline filter and a standard can filter?

A can-style filter hangs at the extraction point with a deep carbon bed built for volume and lifespan. An inline filter sits directly within the ducting run itself, trading some carbon depth for a slimmer profile, useful where ceiling height or tent space is tight.

Which way round should the filter go?

Position it on the intake side of your inline fan, so air is drawn through the carbon before reaching the fan. This protects the fan and keeps airflow more efficient than filtering after the fan.

How long does a Can Inline Filter last?

Typically 12 to 18 months depending on your environment and usage. Replace it once odours start coming through or airflow drops noticeably, even with a clean pre-filter fitted.

How do I pick the right size?

Match the diameter to your ducting size, then match the airflow rating to your fan's actual output rather than sizing down. Undersizing the filter for your fan's CFM restricts airflow and shortens the working life of both.
