What Size Fan & Filter Do You Need for Your Grow Tent?
Choosing the right extraction setup for your grow tent is easier than it sounds—just follow this quick formula. Start by calculating the volume of your grow space in cubic metres:
Width × Length × Height = Volume (m³)
Then, multiply that number by 60 to get your Air Movement Per Hour. This tells you how much air your fan needs to shift to fully refresh the tent every minute.
If you’re using a carbon filter (and you should be), multiply that figure by 1.2 to compensate for the resistance it adds. The 1.2 factor simply adds 20% extra airflow.
Got extra heat, long ducting runs, or tight bends? No problem—just increase the multiplier:
- 1.3 adds 30%
- 1.5 adds 50%
- ...and so on
Once you’ve got your final number, use it to choose the right fan and filter combo. Not sure where to start? Check out our Extraction Kits—we’ve done the hard work for you.
Pro tip: It’s always better to overspec your fan and control it down. That way, you’ve got the flexibility to ramp things up when needed—like during hot summer days or intense flowering stages.
Grow smart. Grow spacious. Grow BudBox.
Choose your height. Pick your lining. Level up your grow space with a tent trusted by indoor growers around the world.
