Hard tap water pushes pH high and brings its own calcium. IONIC Hard Water Grow neutralises the bicarbonates behind the pH climb, and is built on high-grade nitric acid, so less correcting acid is needed. Calcium is balanced to account for what your tap water already supplies. The potassium to nitrogen ratio is set for strong vegetative growth.
Switch to Hard Water Bloom when flowering starts.

- 5ml/L in weeks 1–3, rising to 6ml/L from week 4, alongside Root Boost at 0.5–1ml/L — EC runs higher than the standard Hydro range to offset hard water's own mineral content.

- Built specifically for hard water. IONIC doses differently by medium — Soil, Hydro, Hard Water and Coco each have their own schedule, so don't cross them over.
- Grower Notes
- Neutralises the bicarbonates that push British tap water's pH high. On soft or RO water, use Hydro Grow and its own schedule instead. Tonic isn't on this schedule — only add Tonic if you see a recognised deficiency, at 0.5ml/L for one week.
Good practice
- Add products one at a time, stirring between each. Never mix concentrates neat.
- Keep the tank covered — light in stored solution eventually means algae.
- On soft or RO water? Use the standard IONIC Hydro range and its own schedule instead.
- Use IONIC Tonic only where there is a recognised need: 0.5ml per litre for one week.
- Measure every dose — eyeballing is where most feed problems start.

How is this different from standard Hydro Grow?
It's built specifically for hard/mains tap water — on high-grade nitric acid, so it needs less correcting acid, and it balances calcium for what hard water already supplies. Use Hydro Grow instead if you're on soft or RO water.
Do I still need Tonic?
Only if you see a recognised deficiency — it isn't part of the routine Hard Water schedule the way it is on soft water or coco.
When do I switch to Bloom?
Move onto Hard Water Bloom from week 6.
