Best Grow Tents by Size: 2026 UK Buying Guide

Short version? For most home growers it's a 1.2m x 1.2m tent, and the Gorilla Box 1.2m Standard at £110 is the sensible one. Want 25mm poles, metal corners and the choice of a white lining? That's the Bud Box Pro 1.2m, from £144.99. Tighter on space, the Green Qube V GQ100 is the 1m tent we'd pick. Got a loft? The Bud Box Roof Grow Tent has a pitched roof built for it. And if you're kitting out a proper room, the Secret Jardin Dark Room DR300 R4 has a stainless frame that won't rust on you. Measure twice before you order. Seriously.

The best grow tents, size by size

Gorilla Box 1.2m x 1.2m x 2m Standard grow tent with silver Mylar lining
1 Best all-rounder

Gorilla Box 1.2m x 1.2m Standard

£110.00

It's the size most home set-ups are built around, so it's where we'd point most people. Big enough to actually get a crop out of. Small enough to live in a spare room without taking it over.

  • 120 x 120 x 200cm
  • 16mm poles
  • Silver Mylar lining
  • 210D and 600D fabric
  • The floor pole design lets water pipe and cable in at the bottom, so you're not snaking everything over the top
  • Tool-free build, and the fabric's washable
  • The 720W LED bars in our 120cm light guide are made for exactly this footprint
Know before you buy: the Standard range uses 16mm poles with plastic corners. Fine for a 720W LED and a mid-size filter. Hang a lot more off it than that and you want the Bud Box Pro below. Low ceiling? The Bud Box Lite 1.2m at 180cm tall is £110 too.

Sorting the light next? Our best LED grow lights for a 120cm tent guide picks up right where this one stops.

Bud Box Pro 1.2m x 1.2m grow tent, standard or XL height, white or silver lining
2 Best upgrade

Bud Box Pro 1.2m x 1.2m

From £144.99

Same footprint as the Gorilla, built a fair bit tougher. 25mm steel poles and metal click-lock corners instead of 16mm and plastic. And you get to pick the lining and the height, which most tents don't let you do.

  • 120 x 120 x 200 or 220cm
  • 25mm steel poles
  • Metal click-lock corners
  • White or silver lining
  • White lining option. Bud Box say it reflects more usable light, cuts hotspots and makes it much easier to spot problems on the plants
  • 2.2m XL height for SCROG, tall plants or just getting the light and filter up out of the way
  • Ground-level irrigation sock and a removable waterproof spill tray
  • Green-tinted viewing window, so you can have a nosey without unzipping
Know before you buy: four versions. Silver, 2m £144.99. White, 2m £166.45. Silver, 2.2m £159.96. White, 2.2m £188.95. Check your ceiling before you go XL. Other sizes too: the Bud Box Pro 1m is from £119.99.

Green Qube V GQ100 1m x 1m x 2m grow tent with orange 25mm poles
3 Best 1m tent

Green Qube V GQ100 1m x 1m

£129.00

A metre square is a cracking size if a 1.2m won't fit. And the GQ100 is built like it's expecting a heavier load than most tents this size ever get. Green Qube reckon it's ideal for four plants.

  • 100 x 100 x 200cm
  • 25mm x 0.8mm poles
  • Holds 100kg
  • 4 x 9" extract socks
  • Uplift MAX Bar sits 12cm high, made for gravity-fed kit like AutoPot, IWS and Multiflow
  • A main door plus two side doors. Handy when the back plant needs a look
  • Hydrometer Guard pocket on the front lets you poke a probe in without opening up
  • Anti-slip tips on the hanging bars, so your light doesn't slowly wander off to one side
Know before you buy: it's £24 more than the Gorilla Box 1m Standard at £105. If you're just hanging one light and a small fan, the Gorilla does the job. Running an AutoPot or a heavy light? The Green Qube earns the extra. Want a white lining at this size? The Bud Box Pro 1m comes in white or silver.

Gorilla Box 0.8m x 0.8m x 1.6m Standard small grow tent
4 Best small tent

Gorilla Box 0.8m x 0.8m Standard

£97.00

For a corner of a bedroom or the space where the old wardrobe used to be. Same fabric and floor pole design as its big brother, just shrunk.

  • 80 x 80 x 160cm
  • 16mm poles
  • Silver Mylar lining
  • Under a hundred quid for a proper lightproof tent
  • Pipe and cable access at floor level, same as the bigger Gorilla Boxes
Know before you buy: 160cm tall goes quickly once a light, hangers and a pot are in. Want more headroom in the same footprint? The Green Qube V GQ80 is 180cm tall for £110. Even less room than that, the Gorilla Box 0.6m is £60.

Bud Box Lite Silver 2.4m x 1.2m x 2m grow tent
5 Best for two lights

Bud Box Lite Silver 2.4m x 1.2m

£190.00

Basically two 1.2m squares stood side by side. So it takes two of the usual 720W lights, one over each half, and you've doubled your canopy without building a whole room.

  • 240 x 120 x 200cm
  • 16mm white poles
  • Thick silver lining
  • Thick, hard-wearing lining that bounces the light back at the plants
  • Ventilation ports for ducting, plus decent zips
  • Works out cheaper than buying two separate 1.2m tents
Know before you buy: Bud Box only switch to 19mm poles on the Lite range at 2.4m square and up, so this one's on 16mm. Spread the weight across both halves. Want white lining at this size? The Bud Box Pro 2.4m x 1.2m comes in white or silver, from £249.99, and the Gorilla Box White 2.4m x 1.2m is £200.

Bud Box Roof Grow Tent with pitched roof for lofts, attics and sloped ceilings
6 Best for lofts

Bud Box Roof Grow Tent

From £199.95

Lofts are awkward. Sloping rafters, low ceilings, the lot. The Bud Box Roof has a pitched top that tucks under the slope, so you get a full footprint where a normal tent wouldn't stand up. Same poles, canvas and zips as the Bud Box Pro range.

  • 1.2m, 1.5m or 2.4m x 1.2m
  • 1.8m max height
  • 25mm steel poles
  • White or silver lining
  • Irrigation ports for AutoPot, IWS and the like
  • Mesh passive vents to get extra air in without light getting out
  • Takes 50kg+ of kit, and comes with a removable waterproof spill tray
Know before you buy: 1.8m is the tallest point, and the roof slopes from there. Think about light height before you fill it with tall plants. Popular versions: silver 1.2m £199.95, white 1.2m £223.15, silver 2.4m x 1.2m £289.99. Watching the pennies? The Bud Box Lite Roof 1.2m is the same loft shape for £119.96.

Secret Jardin Dark Room DR300 R4 3m x 3m grow tent with stainless steel frame
7 Best big tent

Secret Jardin Dark Room DR300 R4

£459.00

A 3m x 3m room with 217cm of headroom, for the multi-light build. The frame is stainless steel rather than powder coated, so a bit of runoff or a damp winter won't have it rusting at the joints.

  • 297 x 297 x 217cm
  • 25mm stainless frame
  • 250kg across 10 loops
  • M400D Mylar
  • Each handling bar takes 25kg, which is real lighting and filter territory
  • Removable water tray liners and inner lining. Pull them out and hose them down between runs
  • Comes with WEBIT netting, light hooks, filter straps, cable clips, a tool pouch and a patch kit
  • Four 250mm ducting flanges and four cable flanges, so nothing goes through a slit in the canvas
Know before you buy: Secret Jardin suggest two MF30 extraction fans for a tent this size, and they're not included. Budget for them. Want 3m x 3m for a bit less? The Gorilla Box 3m x 3m Deluxe is £445, with a 25mm metal frame and welded corners. Or the Bud Box Pro 3m x 3m, from £479.96, if you want it in white.

What size tent do you actually need?

Most people buy the biggest tent that fits the room. Then they find out they can't open the door, reach the back, or get the fan in.

So start with the space, not the tent.

  1. Measure the floor, then leave a gap. You need room round the outside to unzip the doors and get ducting in and out. A tent jammed into an alcove is a pain every single day.
  2. Measure the height too. A 2m tent won't stand up under a 2m ceiling once you've got the frame together. That's what the 180cm tents and the loft tents are for.
  3. Match the light to the footprint. 1.2m squares suit the 720W LED bars. 1m and smaller suit smaller lights. Bigger tents just mean more lights, not one giant one.
  4. Think about extraction. More volume means a bigger fan and filter. Our carbon filter guide and extraction guide cover that bit.
  5. Check the frame against the kit. 16mm poles are fine for a light and a modest filter. Heavy lights, big filters and a net pulling on the frame want 25mm.

Silver or white lining?

Silver Mylar is what most tents come with, and it works. It's reflective, hard-wearing and cheaper.

White is the upgrade. Bud Box reckon it reflects more usable light and spreads it more evenly, so you get fewer hotspots. The bit growers notice first, though, is that you can actually see what's going on in there. Pests, a yellowing leaf, a dodgy drip line. Silver makes everything look a bit shiny and confusing.

On the Bud Box Pro 1.2m, white adds £21.46 on the 2m version. The white options we stock: the Bud Box Pro 1.2m, the Bud Box Pro 1m, the Bud Box Pro 2.4m x 1.2m, the Bud Box Roof and the Gorilla Box White 2.4m x 1.2m.

Need another vent?

The ports on a tent never seem to be quite where you want them. And slashing a hole with a Stanley knife leaves you with a floppy, light-leaky mess that tears further every time you tug the ducting.

The Secret Jardin Ducting Flange & Cutting Tool Kit sorts it properly. The flange bracket fixes to the tent poles first, then you cut a clean circle inside it with the tool in the kit. The opening ends up reinforced and holds up to 5kg. Pick the kit to match your poles:

  • 16mm poles (Gorilla Box Standard, Bud Box Lite): 4", 5" or 6", £13.95 each.
  • 25mm poles (Bud Box Pro, Green Qube, Gorilla Box Deluxe, Secret Jardin): 6", 8" or 10", £21.95 each.

Adding a passive intake rather than a duct run? Pop a light baffle in the hole so air gets through and light doesn't: DF16 light baffle £6.50, or DF25 light baffle £14.00.

Or swap a floppy sock for a proper hard port. The AC Infinity Grow Tent Duct Vent twists onto a standard tent duct port, with a cotton filter to stop dust and bugs and built-in shades to block light. Two to a pack: 6" AC-GDV6 £36.95, or 8" AC-GDV8 £48.95. Ideal on the low intake ports.

How to choose

  • First tent, normal spare room? The Gorilla Box 1.2m Standard. It's the size everything else is designed around.
  • Want it tougher, taller or white inside? Bud Box Pro 1.2m. Go for the 2.2m XL if the ceiling allows.
  • Short on floor space? Green Qube V GQ100 at 1m, or the Gorilla Box 0.8m if it's really tight.
  • Growing in the loft? Bud Box Roof Grow Tent. Nothing else on this list will fit under the rafters.
  • Want to double up without a big room? The Bud Box Lite 2.4m x 1.2m and two lights.
  • Going big? Secret Jardin Dark Room DR300 R4, or the Gorilla Box 1.5m (£145) if 3m is a step too far.

Building the whole thing from scratch? Our grow tent setup guide walks through the rest.

Quick answers

What size grow tent do I need?

For most home growers, 1.2m x 1.2m. It fits in a normal spare room and pairs with the popular 720W LED bar lights. Go 1m or 80cm if floor space is tight, and 2.4m or bigger only if you're running more than one light.

Is a 1m or 1.2m grow tent better?

A 1.2m tent gives you nearly half as much floor again for not much more money, so it's better if it fits. A 1m tent like the Green Qube V GQ100 makes sense when 1.2m won't go in the space.

Is white or silver lining better in a grow tent?

White, if you can stretch to it. Bud Box say white lining reflects more usable light and cuts hotspots, and it makes pests and problems much easier to spot. Silver Mylar still reflects well and costs less, around £21 less on a Bud Box Pro 1.2m.

How tall should a grow tent be?

2m is the standard height and suits most rooms. If your ceiling is under about 2.1m, look at 180cm tall tents like the Bud Box Lite 1.2m (180cm version), or a pitched loft tent like the Bud Box Roof Grow Tent. Got the height? The Bud Box Pro 1.2m comes in a 2.2m XL version.

How do I add an extra vent to a grow tent?

Use a Secret Jardin Ducting Flange and Cutting Tool Kit. The flange fixes to the tent poles, then you cut a clean round hole inside it for ducting, a spigot or a light baffle. Get the 16mm or 25mm version to match your tent poles.

What's the difference between Gorilla Box Standard and Deluxe tents?

Standard Gorilla Box tents have 16mm poles with plastic corners. Deluxe tents have 25mm, 1.0mm thick coated metal poles with welded metal corners and click lock joints, so they carry heavier kit.

Can you put a grow tent in a loft?

Yes, if it fits under the slope. The Bud Box Roof Grow Tent has a pitched roof and a 1.8m max height made for lofts and sloped ceilings, in 1.2m, 1.5m and 2.4m x 1.2m sizes. On a budget, the Bud Box Lite Roof 1.2m is £119.96.

Do grow tents come with a fan and filter?

No. The tents here are just the tent, so you'll need a light, an extraction fan, a carbon filter and ducting on top. If you'd rather buy it all together, look at a complete grow tent kit.
