What is worth having before you need it

• Rope ratchets. Two per fixture. They let you raise a light in ten seconds instead of untying string in the dark, and they hold position under load.
• A magnifying loupe or pocket microscope. 30x to 60x. The only way to actually see trichome development, spider mite or the start of powdery mildew rather than guessing from across the tent.
• Pruners and secateurs for stems and branches, kept separate from your trimming scissors so you are not blunting fine blades on woody growth.
• Nitrile gloves. Handling plants with bare hands transfers oils and moves pests between plants.
• Cable ties, velcro and gaffa tape. Tidy cabling is not vanity – a trailing lead in a room with water in it is the actual risk.
• A funnel and measuring kit so decanting concentrate does not end up on the floor – see beakers, jugs and syringes.

The two most-regretted omissions

A loupe and a decent pair of rope ratchets. Both cost very little, both get used every single grow, and both are the thing people buy after the cycle where not having them cost them something.
