CANNA Coco A&B Review: A Closer Look at the Two-Part Coco Base Feed

Short version? If you grow in coco and want one base feed from rooted cutting to harvest, CANNA Coco A&B is the one we'd start you on. From £14.49 for the 1L. Same two bottles for veg and bloom, 4ml per litre of each, and no hard or soft water version to fret over. There's no kit with it. But size up and it gets cheaper fast: the 10L is £14.90 less than two 5Ls.

CANNA Coco A&B FAQs

Is CANNA Coco A&B any good?

Yes. It's the coco feed most growers have heard of for a reason. One two-part formula covers veg and bloom, it's made to work whatever your tap water is like, and the dose is simple at 4ml per litre of each part. It's not one for recirculating hydro, though.

CANNA Coco A&B or Shogun Samurai Coco AB?

Both are two-part coco feeds you use the whole way through, and the 1L and 5L prices are within pennies of each other. CANNA Coco A&B is the simpler, well-known one at 4ml/L each. Shogun Samurai Coco adds its SmartZen and AquaZen extras at 3 to 4ml/L each. If you just want a proven base feed, go CANNA.

How much CANNA Coco A&B do I use per litre?

4ml of Coco A and 4ml of Coco B per litre of water. That's 40ml of each in a 10 litre can.

Is CANNA Coco A&B for veg or bloom?

Both. It's one base feed for the full lifecycle, so you don't swap bottles when you flip to flower.

What pH should CANNA Coco A&B be?

Aim for pH 5.5 to 6.2 once the feed is mixed.

Can I mix Coco A and Coco B together?

Not neat. Add each part to the water separately and never pour the two concentrates into the same measuring jug.

Does CANNA Coco A&B work with hard water?

Yes. It's formulated to perform consistently whatever your local water hardness, so there's no hard or soft version to pick.

Can I use CANNA Coco A&B in a hydro system?

Not a recirculating one. It's made for coco, hand-watered or drain-to-waste. For recirculating systems look at CANNA Aqua or CANNA Hydro instead.

What it does well

It keeps things simple. Two bottles, same dose all the way through, and you never have to remember which week you swap to the bloom feed. Because you don't.

And the water bit matters more than people think. Plenty of feeds come in hard and soft water versions, CANNA's own Hydro range included. Coco A&B is formulated to cope either way, so whether you're on chalky south London tap water or something softer, it's the same bottle.

It's also built around coco's quirks, with nitrogen, calcium, magnesium, potassium and trace elements balanced for how coir holds on to nutrients. Pair it with CANNA Coco Professional Plus and the feed and the substrate were made to work together.

  • One feed for veg and bloom, nothing to switch at the flip
  • Easy maths. 4ml of each per litre
  • Fine for hand-watering and drain-to-waste
  • Sizes up to 20L for when the 1L runs out embarrassingly fast

Where it falls short

Good fit if you...

  • grow in coco, by hand or drain-to-waste
  • want a well-known base feed and a simple dose
  • don't want to think about hard or soft water

Look elsewhere if you...

  • run a recirculating hydro system
  • grow in soil
  • want separate grow and bloom bottles to fine-tune each stage
Know before you buy: this is a coco feed, full stop. Running recirculating hydro? Go for CANNA Aqua Vega or CANNA Hydro Vega. Growing in soil, have a look at CANNA Terra Vega. And keep two measuring jugs. Mixing the A and B concentrates together neat is the one thing you really mustn't do.

Which version to buy

Same feed in every bottle, so it's just about how much you get through. We've checked each size against buying the next size down twice over.

Size Price Saving
CANNA Coco A&B 1L £14.49 n/a
CANNA Coco A&B 5L £41.95 £30.50 vs five 1L
CANNA Coco A&B 10L £69.00 £14.90 vs two 5L
CANNA Coco A&B 20L £118.00 £20.00 vs two 10L

Prices as at November 2026.

First grow in a tent? The 1L is fine for finding your feet. Once you know you're sticking with it, the 5L is where the price per litre properly drops.

How to use it

  1. Fill your watering can or tank with the water first.
  2. Measure 4ml of Coco A per litre, pour it in and stir.
  3. Using a separate measuring jug, add 4ml of Coco B per litre and stir again.
  4. Check the pH and bring it into the 5.5 to 6.2 range.
  5. Feed by hand or through your drain-to-waste setup. Same mix in veg and bloom.

Looking after it

There's not much to it, being a feed. But a couple of habits keep it working properly.

  • Store it cool and dark. Nutrients don't like light or heat, so the windowsill is out.
  • Separate jugs, always. One for A, one for B. Label them if you have to.
  • Flush now and then. If salts build up in the coco, run plain water through occasionally.
  • Add-ons are optional. In coco, A&B covers what the plant needs on its own. CANNA's usual trio of Rhizotonic, CANNAZYM and PK 13/14 is there if you want to push it.

How it stacks up

Coco feed Veg and bloom in one? 1L 5L
CANNA Coco A&B Yes £14.49 £41.95
Shogun Samurai Coco AB Yes £14.50 £42.00
Atami Coco AB Not stated £13.00 £34.99
Dutch Pro Hydro-Coco Grow A+B No, separate Grow and Bloom £16.00 £35.00
Ferro COCO Growth A-B No, separate Growth and Bloom £18.00 £48.00

Prices as at November 2026. Two-stage feeds mean buying both bottles, so double up for a full grow.

Atami is the cheaper bottle. Dutch Pro and Ferro let you tweak veg and bloom separately, which some growers like. But for one feed that does the whole job, CANNA Coco A&B is the safe pick.
