How It Works
- Place seeds or cuttings onto the heated base using your chosen propagation medium (e.g. root cubes, jiffy pellets).
- The heated base delivers consistent bottom heat to stimulate rapid root development.
- The X-Stream lid locks in warmth and humidity, while adjustable vents let you gradually reduce humidity as plants mature.
- Use the thermostat probe in your chosen location—either within the propagation medium for root temperature or suspended in the air for air temperature control.
Setting the Right Conditions
Getting the right balance of heat and humidity is the key to strong germination and healthy propagation. With the X-Stream Heat Propagator, you combine the humidity-retaining lid with a highly accurate heated base. Simply place your seeds or cuttings on the base with your chosen medium, set your thermostat to the desired temperature, and let the system maintain optimal conditions.
The digital thermostat (included with thermostat versions) allows you to set your desired temperature to within 1°C. Place the probe inside the propagator for accurate readings and regular monitoring. Temperatures will vary depending on the type of plant being grown, so always adjust accordingly to achieve the ideal environment.
Note: Without a thermostat, the base is constantly on and will run at full power. For full control and to avoid overheating, we recommend choosing the thermostat version.
Grower’s Tips
- Thermostat Probe Placement: Insert the probe into an unused propagation cube or pellet for accurate root-zone temperature readings.
- Positioning: Place the propagator on a raised surface (not directly on the floor) for faster and more stable heating.
- Temperature Compensation: Remember: if you set air temperature, the root-zone will usually be 1–2°C warmer.

Does the X-Stream Heated Propagator come with a thermostat?
As an optional extra. The thermostat version includes a digital Thermostat with adjustable settings (5°C–30°C). You can also purchase the propagator without a thermostat.
What happens if I use the propagator without a thermostat?
Without a thermostat, the heated base will remain constantly on, running at full power. This provides warmth but doesn’t allow precise temperature control, so we recommend using the thermostat model for best results.
How many plants can it hold?
The Small X-Stream Heated Propagator fits up to 150 seedlings or cuttings, while the Large version can accommodate up to 450.
Can I control both air and root temperatures?
Yes. By placing the thermostat probe inside a cube/pellet, you can control root temperature. Suspending the probe in the air lets you regulate air temperature.
Is it suitable for all plant types?
Absolutely. The adjustable heat range allows you to fine-tune the environment for different seeds, herbs, or cuttings to give them the best start.
