Full Climate Control (AC)

Full climate control means cooling the room rather than venting it. Instead of extracting hot air and pulling in whatever the outside world offers, a sealed room with air conditioning holds temperature and humidity where you set them, all year, regardless of the weather.

When you actually need it

• Your extraction is already maxed and it is still too hot. Fix ventilation first – most heat complaints are undersized fans or throttled ducting, not a need for AC.
• You want to run CO2. Enriching CO2 only works in a sealed room. Venting a room you are enriching is money out of the window. See CO2 enrichment.
• Summer is costing you a crop. If July repeatedly forces you to run lights at night or drop wattage, AC pays for itself in consistency.
• Odour or noise makes venting impractical – a sealed room has no exhaust to filter.

What sealed changes

Once you stop venting, everything you were exporting stays put. Humidity has nowhere to go, so a dehumidifier is not optional – it becomes the main workload, because your plants transpire litres a day. Plants also consume the CO2 in the room within a couple of hours, which is why sealed and CO2 go together.

Sizing

Every watt of lighting is a watt of heat. Add up fixture wattage, ballasts, pumps and controllers, then size the unit against that plus the room's own heat gain. Undersizing is the usual error: a unit that runs constantly and never reaches setpoint costs more to run than a correctly sized one that cycles.

The honest version

This is the most expensive way to control a grow room and most home growers do not need it. Correct extraction, decent climate control and a controller solve the majority of problems for a fraction of the cost. Come to AC when you have genuinely run out of ventilation, or when you want CO2.
