Description
Bluelab EC Probe Care Kit
Keep your Bluelab EC meter reading accurately with the official Bluelab EC Probe Care Kit. Designed for cleaning and checking Bluelab conductivity probes, it gives you everything needed to remove nutrient salt build-up and keep EC, CF and PPM readings reliable.
If you use a Bluelab Truncheon, Conductivity Pen, Combo Meter, Guardian Monitor or Pro Controller, regular probe cleaning should be part of your meter maintenance routine.
Why clean your EC probe?
Every time an EC probe goes into nutrient solution, salts and residue can gradually build up around the conductivity sensors. Leave it long enough and readings can become slow, unstable or inaccurate. That can make you think your nutrient solution is weaker or stronger than it really is.
Bluelab recommends cleaning conductivity probes around once a month for best results.

How to clean a Bluelab EC probe
Remove the probe shroud first. On a Bluelab Truncheon, rotate the shroud 90 degrees before removing it.
Put one or two drops of Bluelab Conductivity Probe Cleaner onto the probe face and rub it firmly using the supplied chamois.
Rinse the probe thoroughly under running tap water while continuing to clean the probe face. Once properly clean, water should form an even film across the surface rather than forming beads.
Refit the shroud and check the meter using the supplied 2.77 EC / 27.7 CF Conductivity Standard Solution.
If the reading isn't within 0.1 EC / 1 CF of 2.8 EC, clean the probe again and retest.
How often should I clean my Bluelab EC probe?
For normal use, Bluelab recommends cleaning conductivity probes once a month. It is also worth cleaning the probe if your EC or PPM reading suddenly looks wrong, fluctuates more than usual or takes longer than normal to settle.
A proper clean is often the first thing to try before assuming there is a problem with the meter itself.
EC probe cleaning vs calibration
Cleaning and calibration are not quite the same thing. Cleaning removes nutrient salts, oils and residue from the conductivity sensors. The supplied 2.77 EC standard solution then gives you a known reference point so you can check that the probe is reading correctly.
For accurate nutrient management, keeping the probe physically clean is just as important as checking its reading against a known solution.
A small bit of maintenance that matters
Your EC reading is one of the main numbers you rely on when mixing a reservoir. There is not much point carefully measuring nutrients if the meter you are checking them with has a dirty probe.
Keep the kit with your meter, give the probe a proper clean roughly once a month and check it against fresh 2.77 EC solution afterwards.
