Foliar Sprays are one of the most effective but often overlooked ways to give plants a rapid boost. By applying nutrients directly to the leaves and stems, foliar feeding allows for immediate absorption—bypassing the root zone and turbocharging plant growth during both the vegetative and flowering stages.
Why Use Foliar Sprays?
- Fast Absorption: Nutrients are taken up instantly through leaves, delivering results faster than root feeding alone.
- Targeted Support: Corrects deficiencies quickly (e.g. calcium, magnesium, iron).
- Extra Power: Supplements your regular plant nutrients with a direct uptake method.
- Stress Recovery: Helps plants bounce back from environmental stress such as heat or transplant shock.
When to Foliar Feed
Foliar sprays can be used in both the vegetative and flowering stages:
- Vegetative Stage: Use growth-focused foliar sprays to boost leaf and stem development.
- Flowering Stage: Apply bloom-specific sprays to support bud formation, essential oil production, and overall flower health.
Foliar Feeding vs Root Feeding
| Method | Absorption Speed | Best Use |
|---|---|---|
| Root Feeding | Slower (via root uptake) | Everyday base nutrition |
| Foliar Feeding | Immediate (via leaf absorption) | Correcting deficiencies, boosting growth, stress recovery |
Foliar Spray FAQs
When is the best time to apply foliar sprays?
Always spray when lights are off or dimmed, or during early morning/late evening if growing outdoors, to avoid leaf burn.
Can foliar sprays replace base nutrients?
No—foliar sprays are a supplement, not a replacement. They work best alongside root stimulators, PK additives, and your regular feeding program.
How often should I foliar feed?
Once or twice a week is usually enough, but always check product instructions for specific usage rates.
Are foliar sprays safe in flower?
Yes—just avoid spraying too late in flowering to prevent moisture build-up on buds.
