Frequently Asked Questions

Which AutoPot fittings do I need, 9mm or 6mm?

It depends on your valve. The AQUAvalve5, fitted to everything AutoPot have sold since August 2020, uses blue 9mm pipe and 9mm fittings. Older AQUAvalves use black 6mm pipe. The two sizes don't push together without a reducer.

Do I need a 16mm main line on my AutoPot system?

AutoPot recommend it once you go past eight standard pots or six XL pots. Run 16mm pipe from the tank along the row, then use a 16mm to 9mm tee or cross at each module to feed the valves.

What's the difference between the tee and the cross?

The tee gives you one 9mm branch off the 16mm line. The cross gives you two, one on each side, which suits rows of pots facing each other.

How much 9mm pipe will I need?

Measure the run from the tank to the furthest pot and add a bit for bends. Single metres are fine for repairs. For a new build or a bigger system the 30m roll works out cheaper per metre.

How tight should the AQUAvalve5 collar be?

Hand tight. As soon as you feel it grip, stop. Over-tightening is the usual reason collars crack.

All AutoPot systems, modules and kits sold since August 2020 run on 9mm pipe. If your valve is an AQUAvalve5, these are the parts you want.

Need the valve itself? The AutoPot AQUAvalve5 has its own page.

What's in the dropdown

Part What it's for
9mm Blue Pipe Per metre for repairs, or the 30m roll for new builds. Co-extruded, 9mm outside and 7mm inside, with metre markings.
9mm Straight and Elbow Join two lengths, or turn a corner without kinking the pipe.
9mm Tee and Cross Split one 9mm line into two or three.
16mm to 9mm Tee and Cross One or two 9mm branches off a 16mm main line on bigger systems.
9mm to 6mm Reducing Connector Joins 9mm pipe to the old 6mm pipe, for mixed old and new setups.
9mm In-Line Tap Shuts off a single line, so you can pull a pot or flush the system without draining the lot.
9mm Golf Filter Sits on the pipe inside the tank and catches debris before it reaches the valves.
16mm to 9mm In-Line Filter Filters the feed where a 16mm main line drops to 9mm.
16mm to 9mm Click-Fit Tank Adaptor & Filter Clicks into the tank outlet with a filter built in, and takes 9mm pipe off it.
9mm Top Hat Grommet Seals the 9mm pipe where it goes through a tank or tray wall.
AQUAvalve5 Collar (9mm) Replacement collar. Hand tight only. Stop as soon as you feel it grip, or it'll crack.

When do I need 16mm?

On small setups 9mm pipe can run straight from the tank to the pots. Once you're past eight standard pots or six XL pots, AutoPot recommend a 16mm main line off the tank, with a tee or cross at each module feeding 9mm pipe to the valve. It keeps the flow up at the far end of the run.
