IMPORTANT – CONTROLLER REQUIRED: The Matrix Hybrid 1000W requires the Matrix MC5 Lighting Controller to unlock dimming, spectrum control, UV and far-red scheduling.
Without the MC5 controller connected, this fixture will only operate in basic ON or OFF mode (0% or 100%). There is no built-in dimming or spectrum adjustment without the MC5.
The Matrix Hybrid 1000W merges high-intensity HPS power with precision LED technology in one low-profile fixture. Designed to simulate the sun indoors, it delivers a nature-like canopy environment that drives richer terpene expression, denser flowers, and serious biomass production.
Fixture Mounting & Control Recommendations
Based on current R&D testing, the recommended mounting height for these fixtures is approximately 1.2 m above the canopy, with fixtures spaced around 1.2 m centre-to-centre. This configuration provides balanced light distribution across the canopy and helps achieve consistent PPFD levels throughout the grow area.
These recommendations may vary depending on your room dimensions and the target PPFD at canopy level. If needed, a custom light map can be created to optimise fixture layout and spacing for your specific grow environment.
Power & Controller Compatibility
- Fixtures ship with UK power cords as standard.
- The controller uses a US 120V plug and will require a simple plug adapter when used in the UK.
- Full dimming and channel control is available when using the Matrix MC5 Lighting Controller.
Dimming & Channel Control
Using the MC5 controller allows independent control over the three lighting channels, enabling growers to fine-tune intensity and spectrum for different stages of plant development.
- Main Red + White spectrum – Dims down to 25% (10% when using spray mode on the controller).
- Far Red (FR) – Dims down to 25%.
- HPS channel – Dims down to 50%.
Advanced Scheduling
The MC5 controller allows independent scheduling for each channel (Main, Far Red, and HPS). This means growers can program specific lighting behaviours throughout the photoperiod.
- Run the Far Red channel for a set number of minutes at lights-on or lights-off.
- Schedule different intensity levels during the day.
- Create custom lighting strategies to optimise plant responses and canopy development.
This level of control gives growers the flexibility to experiment with advanced lighting techniques and refine their cultivation strategy.
Using Far Red Lighting for Advanced Grow Strategies
The separate Far Red (FR) channel allows growers to take advantage of advanced lighting techniques that can influence plant morphology and development. When controlled using the Matrix MC5 Lighting Controller, the Far Red channel can be scheduled independently from the main lighting spectrum.
End-of-Day Far Red (EOD FR)
Many growers use End-of-Day Far Red by running the FR channel for a short period at lights-off. This technique can help plants transition more quickly into their night cycle by signalling sunset to the plant’s phytochrome system.
- Typical EOD Far Red duration: 5–15 minutes after lights off
- Encourages faster photoperiod response
- Can improve flowering efficiency in some cultivars
The Emerson Effect
When red and far-red light are used together, plants can sometimes photosynthesise more efficiently due to a phenomenon known as the Emerson Effect. This occurs when both photosystem I and photosystem II are stimulated simultaneously.
With the MC5 controller, growers can experiment with different strategies such as:
- Running Far Red briefly at lights-on
- Adding short FR pulses during the photoperiod
- Using FR during lights-off transitions
This level of control allows growers to fine-tune light signals and experiment with advanced cultivation techniques to optimise plant structure and flowering performance.
