If you've been cross-shopping AC Infinity's all-in-one climate control unit, you've probably seen three different BTU numbers and two different model names for what looks like the same box. Here's what's actually going on — and which figure to trust.
Search for the "AC Infinity Terraform 8" in the UK and you'll hit a wall straight away: nobody here sells anything called a Terraform 8. What you'll find instead is the Terraform 9 — and if you start comparing spec sheets between US sites and UK sites, the BTU numbers don't line up either. Some listings say 12,000 BTU. Others say 9,000. Somewhere in the mix you might even spot 8,000.
None of that means you're looking at three different air conditioners, or that the UK is getting a watered-down version. It means the market hasn't caught up with how AC Infinity structured this release. Here's the actual picture.
Terraform 9 is the UK/EU badge for the Terraform 8
AC Infinity releases this unit region by region. In the US it ships as the Terraform 8 — 120V, US plug. In the UK and EU it ships as the Terraform 9 — 230V/50Hz, UK plug fitted as standard. Same compressor, same 12,000 BTU cooling and 10,000 BTU heating, same single-duct auto-switching, same AI VPD control. The only thing that changes between the two is the electrics for local mains power.
So if you've watched a US review or build video referencing the "Terraform 8," that's the unit sold here as the Terraform 9. Nothing has been downgraded, re-engineered, or cut back for the UK release.
This is the model on our site. It carries AC Infinity's own published spec of 12,000 BTU cooling / 10,000 BTU heating — the same figures printed for the US Terraform 8. If a UK listing you've seen quotes a lower number, that's a labelling inconsistency between retailers, not a different machine.
So where does the 9,000 (or 8,000) come from?
Two separate things get tangled together here, and it's worth pulling them apart properly.
Air conditioners commonly carry more than one BTU figure depending on the testing standard behind it — ASHRAE is an older method that measures gross output under fixed lab conditions, while SACC (Seasonally Adjusted Cooling Capacity) is the newer, stricter US DOE standard that weights for real-world duty cycles and typically lands 25–35% lower than ASHRAE for the same hardware. Neither number is "wrong" — they're just answering different questions. When one retailer copies a spec sheet built around one standard and another copies a different source, you end up with two published numbers for one identical unit. That's the most likely explanation for the 9,000 you may have seen elsewhere.
If you've seen "8,000 BTU" attached to a Terraform anywhere, there's a good chance it's not about testing standards at all — it's the Terraform 7 (AC-ACN5), an earlier generation, US-only unit that was genuinely rated at 8,000 BTU. It never launched in the UK/EU (AC Infinity ran into power-conversion issues getting it certified here) and has since been discontinued, superseded by the Terraform 8/9 platform. It's an easy mix-up to make when you're speed-reading spec sheets across three model numbers, but it's a different machine entirely — not a lower rating for the one we sell.

Sizing it for your space
Ignore the badge and think about the actual job. Your cooling load isn't just ambient room temperature — it's your lighting wattage converting almost entirely into heat, plus whatever your ballasts, pumps and dehumidifier are adding, minus whatever your extraction is already pulling out. At 12,000 BTU cooling and 10,000 BTU heating, the Terraform 9 is built for tents up to roughly 10×10ft, but your specific wattage and ambient conditions will move that number in either direction.
