Reviews of seaweed extract biostimulants (for example Khan et al., 2009) describe growth-promoting substances in these extracts, including cytokinins, auxins and betaines, and later reviews note that hormone content varies widely between extracts. The RHS takes a careful line: seaweed products are not true fertilisers because their nutrient content is not guaranteed or standardised, and some are sold on the strength of natural growth regulators such as cytokinins. It also says the formula improves nutrient uptake and helps plants finish earlier. We have not found independent trials on Moonshine itself, so treat those as manufacturer claims.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe kelp behind it is better studied.
